About this Video Series

Discipleship is about enjoying a living relationship with Jesus and following in His footsteps. In this series of videos, Deepak shares the joys of discipling while giving sound advice on how to deal with subtle dangers of discipling both to the discipler and to the one being discipled.

The dangers of discipling to watch out for:

  • Subtle dangers to the disciple

  • And dangers to the one being disciples

But not forgetting the joys of pointing others to Christ and walking with them

  • Whether the disciple is slow in making progress
  • Or if he/she is catalysed for great progress
  • The impact of making disciples who make disciples who make disciples …

Defining Discipling and a Culture of Discipling

What is discipleship? Why this is important? Deepak considers the dangers and joy of the charge to make disciples.

Dangers of Self-Importance and Self-Reliance

Two dangers that disciple-makers are to look out for. Paul who made a great impact in others saw himself as “the least of the apostles.”

Dangers of a Program Mindset and a Sense of Failure

Be flexible to address unexpected crisis instead of insisting on “your original plan.” And two ways to counter discouragements when the disciple is not making as much progress as you had hope.

Dangers of Inappropriate Intimacy

Wise precaution for cross-gender discipling outside of the immediate biological family.

Dangers of Over Dependence and Trusting too Easily

Avoid the temptation which draws attention and dependence to the self in discipling. Discipleship is to help others follow and glorify Christ.

Joys of Disicpling and Fast Growers

The joys playing a part in accelerating the growh of others when you are willing to be a channel for God.

Joys of Slow Growers and Church Prospering

The joys of seeing the stagnant grow and the church prospers. Never under-estimate what God can do through discipling even when some take a longer time to respond to God’s grace.

Joys of Being Fruitful for the Kingdom of God

The indescribable joy to be bearing fruits within a culture of discipling.

The Discipler who is a Disciple

Deepak shared an example of a discipler who knows the importance of being discipled.

Resources

In this concise guide, pastor Mark Dever outlines the who, what, where, when, why, and how of discipling—helping others follow Jesus.

Following the pattern found in Scripture, this book explains how disciple-making relationships should function in the context of the local church, teaching us how to cultivate a culture of discipling as a normal part of our everyday lives.

This inspiring and practical book will give you the essentials—what you really need to know if you’re going to follow Jesus. Gary Millar shows readers how letting the fundamental truths of the gospel take root in our hearts changes everything about the way we see God, ourselves and the world around us. Mentoring questions are included for each chapter, so it’s also an ideal resource to use in one-to-one discipleship with younger believers.

Three seemingly unremarkable principles shape and strengthen the Christian life: listening to God’s voice, speaking to him in prayer, and joining together with his people as the church. Though often viewed as normal and routine, the everyday “habits of grace” we cultivate give us access to these God-designed channels through which his love and power flow—including the greatest joy of all: knowing and enjoying Jesus.
