About this Video Series

“Prayer is not just talking to God but is an appeal to God on the basis of His character to come through on His promise”. It is “audible faith”, faith that is expressed as we walk daily in step with the Spirit. This series of videos helps us look at the purpose and power of communal prayer when the body of Christ gathers and relate together to the Father, Son, and Spirit.

The videos on Effective Communal Prayer discusses:

  • Biblical prayers are shaped by the gospel as we respond to the Word
  • Mature communal prayers model prayers for the disciples (in scope and movement)
  • Sparse and sporadic prayers need not be the norm
  • The life of the church can be permeated with prayers besides having regular prayer meetings
  • The church is shaped by communal prayers

Introduction to the Video Series

EP1: Biblical Prayers

God addresses us in the Scriptures and we respond to Him in audible faith with praise and petition. Prayers expresses a dependence on God. Come learn also the three aspects of biblical prayer.

EP2: The Role of Communal Prayers

The faith community that gathers and relates to God and His word together models mature prayer for the disciples, unites the church, and sets priorities right.

EP3: How Purposeful Mature Prayers Look Like

Jesus taught his disciples to pray suggesting that we need to learn to pray mature prayers. In this video, we see that mature prayers are inclusive with a wider scope and move with five directions.

EP4: A Praying Church

How can we permeate the life of the church with prayers? Are prayers prioritised or are they add-ons? Are prayers limited to corporate prayer meetings or is there a frequent turning to prayers when brethren share of their lives?

EP5: Addressing Sporadic Prayers

In theory we acknowledge that prayers are important. So why aren’t prayers a more natural part of our daily lives? Neither knowledge nor guilt can help rectify this. One thing can: watch this video to learn more.

EP6: How Does Prayer Shape the Church?

Communal prayers directly affect the life of the church. Kingdom-centred prayers will have churches that increasingly set their minds on things above. Not to have prayers (private or communal) is to head towards a lifeless church.

Resources

Prayer is as necessary to the Christian as breathing is to the human body—but it often doesn’t come quite as naturally. This book focuses on the necessity of regular prayer as a central practice in the local church—awakening us to the need and blessing of corporate prayer by examining what Jesus taught about prayer, how the first Christians approached prayer, and how to prioritize prayer in our congregations.

Through personal stories and biblical examples, Miller teaches the why, what, and how of praying together. Readers will learn how praying with other Christians can transform their communities into beacons of hope and be given practical strategies—such as finding a prayer partner and prioritizing a structured prayer time—to implement these changes in their own church.
